Thomas McIntyre began his career with the IBEW local #5 in 1979 as an Apprentice electrician. He advanced to journeyman wireman status in January 1984. He is a Pittsburgh Central Catholic graduate and also completed the construction foreman's training program at Penn State and Youngstown State Universities. Thomas held several positions throughout the years in the industry. He was a General foreman and field superintendent for several larger contractors.

Thomas was first appointed local 5 manpower coordinator in 2004, followed by being appointed vice-president, recording secretary, and president before becoming business manager in 2021. Other current positions he is serving on include PA AFL-CIO executive board, PA building trades vice-president, Allegheny county airport authority board of directors, Chairman of IBEW local 5 trust funds, Apprenticeship, pension, insurance, deferred compensation, wage and fringe and the labor management committees. He is also an executive board member for the Allegheny County Labor Council and the Pittsburgh building trades.

He resides in Bethel Park with his spouse of 27 years and has 2 girls and 5 grandchildren
